JACL Extends Deadline for Norman Y. Mineta Fellowship

The JACL has extended the deadline for applications for its newly established Norman Y. Mineta Fellowship. This fellowship will be in the JACL Washington, D.C. office and will focus on public policy advocacy as well as programs of safery awareness in the Asian Pacific American community.

Hundreds of community leaders and members pay tribute to former longtime JACL national director John Tateishi

San Francisco- John Tateishi may no longer be the national director of the JACL— he resigned last hune due to personal health reasons— but he continues to be venerated by JACL members and the Asian American Community.

His continued popularity as one of the longest serving national directors of the oldest AA civil rights organization was evident as speaker after speaker poured praise on Tateishi at a tribute dinner in his honor May 19 at the Westin San Francisco Airport Hotel.


San Mateo JACL Highlights Upcoming Event—HIDDEN STORIES OF WORLD WAR II

In 2001, a unique collaboration among the Japanese, German, and Italian communities produced the highly acclaimed photo-exhibit "The Enemy Alien Files: Hidden Stories of World War II."  Over the past five years, that exhibit has traveled to dozens of locations, from Los Angeles to Chicago to Washington DC, presenting for the first time in dramatic format a photo-narrative history of the World War II Alien Enemy Control Program, which interned over 30,000 Japanese, German, and Italian enemy aliens. The event will be held on Saturday, April 28th, 2007, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the San Mateo Main Library at 55 West 3rd Avenue. We invite all to come and experience this wonderful event!
